Everybody should have the chance to create a better future. For more than 50 years, TechnoServe's work has been centred on this straightforward notion. TechnoServe Tanzania is a pioneer in using the influence of corporations and markets to build long-term routes out of poverty. There are many entrepreneurial people in the low-income neighbourhoods where we work.
The foundation of their economic development is their small-scale farms and businesses. But they face numerous difficulties, including low levels of literacy, limited access to markets and jobs, erratic political dynamics, and, more and more, the results of climate change. The difficulties are even greater for a lot of young people and women. People from all over the world are escaping poverty by working with TechnoServe staff.
The results are astounding. Families are able to access health care and education that were previously out of reach as their incomes rise and their living conditions improve. Communities, even entire countries, are better off. Through entrepreneurship programmes that enable both men and women, we are also assisting Tanzania in diversifying its economy.
